Bullhead Mountain

Blue Ridge Conservancy AND Conservation Trust for North Carolina

Milepost: 232-234.5 | County: Alleghany | Acres: 265 | Hiking: No

The Conservation Trust for North Carolina and Blue Ridge Conservancy teamed up to protect three properties totaling 265 acres on Bullhead Mountain. Visible from much of Alleghany and Wilkes counties, two of these tracts were transferred to the state to establish Bullhead Mountain State Natural Area in 2000. The third property was later added to the State Natural Area. The mountain also plays a crucial role in the annual migration of birds.
