Fork Ridge Overlook

Conservation Trust for North Carolina

Milepost: 449.4 | County: Jackson | Acres: 10 | Hiking: No

This 10-acre property in Jackson County adjoins the Blue Ridge Parkway just upslope from a recently-opened segment of the Mountains-to-Sea Trail. Hikers can access this section of trail from Waterrock Knob or directly off the Parkway near Woodfin Cascades Overlook. The property rises to nearly 6,000 feet and is part of a growing area of contiguous, protected land that is intended to become the Waterrock Knob/Plott Balsams Park along the Parkway. The property is visible from the Scott Creek Overlook and Waterrock Knob, and while driving between mileposts 448 and 451.

“The Fork Ridge Overlook tract is a key puzzle piece in the effort to create a huge swath of conserved lands near Waterrock Knob that we hope someday will become a new park along the Blue Ridge Parkway like Doughton Park and Moses Cone.”

— Conservation Trust for North Carolina Land Protection Director Rusty Painter
