Doughton Park Buffer

Blue Ridge Conservancy

Milepost: 241 | County: Alleghany | Acres: 319 | Hiking: No

Protection of this property provides a buffer to the Blue Ridge Parkway and Doughton Park, the Parkway’s largest recreation area. Conservation of the land protects scenic views and portions of Still Run Creek and Bottom Creek, both tributaries of the Little River and New River. This property was recently expanded by 190 acres.

Doughton Park and our adjoining farm have been a part of my life since childhood. Once just a summer cabin, the farm has become our full time home. We raise cattle on the open pastures which are surrounded by hardwood forests, laurel, and rhododendron. There are constant pressures to sub-divide or develop mountain land. We are so appreciative that the Conservation Trust for North Carolina and Blue Ridge Conservancy have partnered to help preserve for future generations this beautiful farm by the Blue Ridge Parkway.”
