Conservation Trust for North Carolina
Milepost: 441.4 | County: Haywood | Acres: 22 | Hiking: No
This tract near Balsam Gap was the first property that Conservation Trust for North Carolina (CTNC) protected along the Blue Ridge Parkway. It contains a small patch of old growth forest and contributes to a vast area of surrounding protected land. Private donations from the Preservers of the Parkway Fund made the purchase possible. The fund was established in 1996 when Governor James B. Hunt’s Year of the Mountains Commission recommended that CTNC spearhead land protection efforts along the Parkway in North Carolina.
